RESOURCE GUARDING
RESOURCE GUARDING FROM HUMANS
It can be scary when a dog guards food, toys or other items. The lowered head, the hard eyes. Our faithful friend disappears behind white teeth and growls. Luckily, this condition is treatable!
RESOURCE GUARDING FROM OTHER PETS
This is a normal behavior that sometimes gets out of hand. We will discuss it during your behavior consultation. If the level of guarding is abnormal, we will discuss treatment options and packages.
RESOURCE GUARDING IS NORMAL!
Did you know resource guarding is a normal canine behavior? It can definitely get out of hand, but it makes sense from the dog's point of view. Think of how you feel when a waiter whisks away your plate before you are done.

Sharing is not a concept that dogs learn in puppy kindergarten. If a dog has a toy, chew, bowl or anything else he views as important then in the dog's mind, that resource is his. When we humans try to take their stuff, they have limited coping skills. Do they fight for their property? Do they remember how rude humans are and hide or run away the next time? We can teach your dog to give up possessions. It can be a surprisingly fast process in some cases. In others, it takes time and patience. Let me help you convince Fido that you are not the bone thief he thinks you are.
